Lynn Orr, CFP®
Prior to opening Lynn H. Orr Capital Management Group, Inc. in 1998, Lynn was employed for 13 years as a Senior Vice President of Investments at two large commercial banks. He managed over $200 million of customer assets. He decided to open this boutique Retirement Income Planning and Portfolio Management firm because he felt money management needed to be about what was best for the customer and not about what was best for the bank. That mind set of putting corporate profits first is still prevalent today on Wall Street and in large banks.
His education includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with honors, from the University of Tulsa, with double majors in Finance and Economics way back in 1983. He earned six securities licenses: 6, 7, 22, 25, 63 and 65. In 1987, he then received the Certified Financial Planner designation (CFP), and in 1988 completed the advanced studies program in Investment Management and Portfolio Strategies from the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado. In 2004, he earned the Accredited Investment Fiduciary designation from the Center of Fiduciary Studies at the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School at the University of Pittsburgh. He is currently enrolled in the Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP) program through the American College in Bryn Mawr, PA. When Lynn H. Orr Capital Management Group, Inc. was founded in 1998 on Marco Island we operated as your typical independent stock brokerage firm. In 2003, we began to offer our clients the option of paying a quarterly fee based on a percentage of the value of their assets, rather than the old fashioned practice of paying commissions per trade. In 2010, he determined that the fee-based method of compensation was the best way to avoid any conflict commissioned sales may present between a client and their advisor. As a result, he changed his clearing agent and moved all existing client accounts to TD Ameritrade Institutional and discontinued charging any commissions for portfolio management.
Outside of work he is an avid tennis player and fisherman. He and his wife Elaine have been married for 28 years. They enjoy boating around Marco Island and share a passion for traveling throughout the Rocky Mountains when time allows. They have two grown daughters that remind him constantly how precious time really, truly is in life.
